When I was a newbie or didnt have a high rank, I am indeed always criticized and Ive got some bad mood about that but as time pass by, I realize that they helped me shape my posting habit to a more better approach. People should always accept if theres a mistake and learn from it cause it help you grow.

If a newbie lose his patience thats when he got some misdirection.
You didn't have a high rank cause you was just a newbie! Except back in your time you were given things like "copper membership" and all that, I think the badge is newbie or brand new, right?
What we see these days on the forum from newbies is that they expect that the moment they start, they begin getting merits and recognition. (Although some might be lucky especially if they have good content to give) but it's only a select few and when their expectations aren't met, they are easily disinterested and find the forum boring and some get offended by criticism quickly because it's as if that's not what they bargained for but forget that in life nothing good comes easy.
When someone criticizes you, (especially positively), it shows the person is interested in your growth and in that way you can be able to know where you defaulted and start a new page. There won't be any need for correction and you won't make any headways if you are always feeling like you are right and that applies to the forum. Consistency, patience and perseverance are all key ingredients to being successful anywhere you find yourself.
