ICOs used to seem like a smart way to invest, but not anymore.  Too many turned out to be scams or lost people's money, so,  better to read up first before throwing your cash around.  The CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko websites have lots of articles explaining cryptocurrencies and blockchain projects.  Get some basics under your belt before picking any projects to back.  Who knows, maybe youll even find a decent one that will bring you a profit, but you have to do your own research.
