Sending the admin a PM and telling them your willingness to apply to become a merit source was once a solution I thought about, but is that okay to do?
Imho, there's no reason yo contact admin stuff over that as theymos has been pretty clear about what someone has to do to became a merit source.
The only problem I see at the moment is that he usually readjusts merit sources after the amount of merit shared drops down significantly, and that hasn't happened in the last few years. Then again, just because he did it in the past doesn't mean that he will do in the future.
thyemos receives hundreds of PMs per day, and if there is one thing I've learned from the few PMs I've exchanged with him, it's that he likes to be reminded, so if you need something, don't just apply once and stop--for my application, I've left him a few dozen PMs, and I intend to send more in the coming months again.
