Is it common nowadays or is it some exceptional situation? I have not logged in for at least a year there.

For anyone that still has issues with accessing wallets stored on the old counterwallet site, the funds are actually safe on the counterparty blockchain. If you still have your 12 word passphrase you can access the wallet on other wallets that have support for counterparty for instance: https://freewallet.io/ Good luck!
