Girona this season has appeared very impressive since the start of the season until now their target of entering the top four has been achieved. And now they are only maintaining second place until the end of the season even though it is tough because Barcelona is slowly starting to catch up on points from Girona, who are currently only one point behind. Girona being in third place is also an extraordinary achievement, especially being able to compete for La Liga runners-up until the end of the season.
But what I'm afraid of next season is that if they don't bring in quality players then they will fall back into the middle of the standings, even in the UCL League they will fail in the group phase. Usually that's the case, because all the coaches at other clubs will have a lot to learn about how to stop Girona's tactics. This often happens to lower level clubs who suddenly find themselves at the top of the league. Just look at Wofsburg 2008/2009 in Germany, Leicester City 2015/2016. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico next season will still dominate the top four in La Liga.
I feel like it is not really going to be all that easy to handle, it looks as if Girona is doing something incredible but at the same time they made us so used to them being great that when they are doing fine, it is not really all that shocking. Think about it, are you feeling the same way about them as the start of the season?
Like for example during the first 10 weeks of the season and all, we were all so shocked that they were leading the league, and it was an incredible achievement. Now that I look at them beating Ossasuna, and I am like "yeah of course, as expected". This is why I believe that we are not going to get anything major out of this season, they will finish second or third at worst, the real success will be keeping this up next season.
