Ten points gap with just nine matches remaining in the Bundesliga matches this season, and Bayern Munich fans are still hoping that Bayer Leverkusen will drop points for them to overtake them. To me, it is too late for Tuchel’s side because I don’t see any sign that Leverkusen will drop or lose all matches; but in the game of football, anything can happen, but still I am not expecting them to lose matches.
Of the 9 remaining matches that Bayer Leverkusen has, there are only 2 matches that they have to be careful about, that's the meeting with Borussia Dortmund & VfB Stuttgart, it doesn't matter if they lose those 2 matches, as long as they can make wins in the other 7 matches.
I agree with you that currently Bayern Munich is too late to realize that they're behind Bayer Leverkusen, especially since the points gap is quite large. I think they also have to realize that this dynamic is real, what they have built for a long time could be destroyed if they're not alert to other teams.
This is indeed their year to make history because from all indications, they can win the Bundesliga title ahead of Bayern Munich this season, although I doubt the unbeaten run 
It doesn't matter about the record, what's in the spotlight now is Bayer Leverkusen managed to overcome the dominance of Bayern Munich, that's more than enough. Believe me, they won't make the same thing again in the next 3 seasons.
