It's unfortunate that Girona dropped more points today as they lost to the home team Getafe 1:0. The lost gave Real Madrid more advantage over them in gap difference of 10 points making Girona to be uncertain about the second place in the league as the outcome of the game between Barca and ATM tomorrow will determine if Barcelona will overtake Girona in the second place because they are one point below Girona who has 62 points while Barca has 61 points. It was a shocking defeat for Girona today because they had more chances but they couldn't make good of the chances to score.
Girona struggled when faced with pressure towards the end of the season, losing points to Getafe was a big loss, because Barcelona was a real threat that could overtake their position in the standings. Michel will have to work hard to recreate consistency, even though their chances of finishing in the top four and getting a ticket to the Champions League are safe. If they continue to lose points, it is possible that Atletico will also overtake their position.
Yeah that's how Girona plays today, their performance continues to decline with several defeats lately and I am not surprised if in the near future Barcelona will take over the 2nd place. Girona also doesn't really care where their position is at the end of the season, what is clear is that they only target tickets to the Champions League and so far they are still safe unless Girona consistently suffered defeat, for example losing in the last 5 matches then they might lost places in the top 4.
After considering the performances of Girona and their hosts today in the Spanish La Liga Getafe, since the start of the season, I easily thought that it'll be a very easy game for Girona but little did I know that Getafe was going to frustrate them and take all three points from such an important game. Girona I know would never overtake Real Madrid again after Madrid overtook them in the league table but I still expected them to put out a good fight and remain in the top three. This weekend, Barcelona is going to play an away match at Atletico Madrid and I was expecting Girona to capitalize on that and extend their lead at ahead of Barcelona by winning against Getafe today.
Now that they lost the game, they'll be hoping for an Atletico Madrid win in their game against Barcelona tomorrow so they can remain in the second position of the season table. However, if Barcelona beat Atletico Madrid tomorrow, they'll overtake Girona and that's what they'll not want to happen to them
