You’ve made it clear in your post earlier that it is done so that the people (family, friends and colleagues) don’t see them as irresponsible people in the society because of their show of love or addiction to gambling. In a family or society where they view gambling as a normal thing, they don’t need to hide it but will proudly show it that they’re into it and many others will want to follow their lead or even make it look like a competition on who can gamble and win more in the society. The family and society you come from will have effect on your gambling addictions and will say a lot on how proud you are engaging in it or not.
