Apart from the draw against Lecce, at least Roma has made great progress after De Rossi became coach of this team because they have only lost once so far, but Roma did waste the opportunity to keep their chances of sticking with Bologna to reach a position in the top four.
You can say that De Rossi helped Roma to play more attacking and beautiful football but to say he helped Roma make great progress in the top-four race, it is not true.
Mourinho and Roma were 5 points less than top four before Mourinho was sacked and De Rossi came. Now, after a draw with Lecce, Roma are 5 points less than a fourth position again. It's the same gap like months ago with Mourinho.
Lecce played very well in this match, but they were not able to maximize every opportunity they had, because there were at least six shots on target that could not be converted into goals, likewise, Roma did not have more chances than Lecce even though De Rossi's squad had more controlled possession of the ball, but Lecce was better in attacking.
Roma did not finish their chances well in a match with Lecce and it costs them 2 points. They could get 3 points if they would have successfully converted one of some opportunities to a winning goal.
My prediction is that Roma will only compete in the European league next season because the remaining eight matches and half of them are tight matches for them, including facing Bologna, whose position they are currently targeting.
Bologna are making very big surprise and 5 points are not big but not small difference if we look at very stunning form of Bologna. Roma still have chances but I believe that Bologna are able to defend their current difference against Roma.
Bologna has been amazing in Italy's Serie A this season, and they are serious contenders to finish in the top four of the Serie A League this season. I think Bologna will beat AS Roma to finish in fourth place in the league table because AS Roma has more difficult matches than Bologna this season.
