When I started gambling my mindset is solely about winning some cash to better my life but the more I gamble, the more that idea shifts. The money no longer satisfies my initial goal but the idea of winning does.

But even with those ideals in play, why would a millionaire start gambling in the first place?

so why would a rich athlete or politician become so addictive to gambling?

I think socialization+joy+drinking+gambling is satisfaction to them. What do you think?

A millionaire and Politician can gamble and they could.be doing it for the money but their desperation is not as high as that of a ordinary person because they have plenty of alternatives to make money from, unlike an ordinary person that is gambling to make money to eat or make money to pay bills and also take care of other people especially if he is married. A politician already has all of this, he is not gambling to sort basic needs but prefer to just add to his riches.

Most of the time, if you are gambling to make ends meet or perhaps you don't have much to take care or basic tings, you are likely to become addicted to gambling because your mind will always be on every game that you play, you will likely feel discomfort and when you lost, you feel it badly.
There is a big difference between the gambling management of people of high social class such as big businessmen or politicians and the gambling management of ordinary people. If a politician or businessman loses his money in gambling, even if he loses at that high rate, he will not suffer as much humanly as an ordinary gambler would feel. Those who in the rich class expect to win from their gambling and some increase in their wealth but a typical gambler sees a big change in their life from gambling. Gamblers who try to change their lives spend a lot of time in gambling for little money. They basically become addicted gamblers. I think addiction is created when a gambler tries to increase his money by winning more.
