Newcastle's unwanted transfer mistakes have made this season not go well for them.
Actually for this season the steps taken by Howe are actually very good where they bring in several players including Tonali who in fact is one of the very good assets because at a very young age he became a promising player because of his good performance, it's just that there were some unexpected situations where Tonali had problems with illegal bets made him get problems and a ban on playing even until the end of this season he will not be able to compete which makes Newcastle experience problems in midfield because it cannot balance the squad because Tonali was included in Howe's previous plan.
This is what makes Newcastle troublesome even though their momentum last season was very good but because of some unexpected mistakes it made them this season experience destruction.
Another reason why Newcastle experienced a setback this season was due to injuries. At the start of the season, Eddie Howe squad performance was quite consistent in winning. Along the way, a storm of player injuries haunted them, and coupled with the Tonali case, their situation worsened. Meanwhile, in terms of player transfers, Newcastle can actually easily recruit players even though the prices are expensive, because after changing ownership, Newcastle has now turned into a club that has strong finances.
Newcastle management must pay close attention to its policies when wanting to buy players in each transfer market, they have to pay attention to the FFP rules too, so that they don't get sanctions like that in the future. Apart from that, currently there are 9 Newcastle players who are still struggling with injuries, while one other, namely Tonali, is still sidelined due to sanctions until the end of August. Overall, the depth of Newcastle's squad is actually quite good, but to be able to compete in the top four next season, Eddie Howe needs to reshuffle his starting XI.
