A big competition is going to happen between Barcelona and Girona. Girona is only two points behind Barcelona. And both of them have a match against each other. They are going to fight for the second position. I believe for both of the teams it actually means something to be the runner-up of the La Liga competition. For Barcelona, it means having some pride in finishing in the second position. For Girona, I believe finishing on the first three positions is already a big improvement. But finishing in the second position and finishing above Barcelona is something of an achievement in itself. But they will also have to win the other matches that are left for them. I don’t know if Girona will be able to be so consistent at this stage.
Let Girona win their next match against Las Palmas and Girona also wins their next match against Valencia before we can analyse their head to head match that will be coming up first week of may. Barcelona are a team that will want to keep their prestige and wouldn’t want Girona to finish above them because of how closed they are with each other now. Girona at this point will not mind the position they will finish on since this is their best season so far in the La Liga and they’ve already achieved something to be praised for.
It will be a great achievement for Girona to finish second on the table above Barcelona but I don’t see them stressing themselves too much for that if it seems impossible to them. All teams from positions two to give on the standings all have opportunities to make qualify for the champions league spot which will depend on the performance of every team. At some point, some teams on the lower positions have to give up if those of the higher positions don’t lose match and remain consistent.
