Hamas started this latest cycle of aggression knowing full well that Israel would go apeshit crazy in retaliation. If they cared at all for their people they would release all of the hostages which in turn would remove most of Israel's justification in continuing the current conflict.

Thing is, Hamas DOES NOT care about the Palestinian people. They only want the destruction of Israel and are more than happy to sacrifice their own people to do it.
