You know, it actually isnt easy to get addicted and here is why. People repeat doing same action only if he loves to do it or it brings him joy. For gambler to become addicted, he must have been winning frequently, that it will form a passion and desire to win again. If gambler loses all the time, I dont think that he will get addicted to gambling, because who gets addicted to losing and want to continue losing. Right? I dont believe that gamblers frequently win, so it will become a habit and they would want to win again and again.
Without self-control, even if you are not winning in gambling, you can still get addicted. Every addict has something that drags them there.

Some gamblers started with a very small amount of money, enjoying the game without any trace of big or constant winning, but they have been losing, so in order for them to recover what they have lost,

A lot of them chose to chase their losses, which is another way to get addicted to gambling before even realising it because the more you go after you lose to recover it, the more dipper you will get to the game, and that's how the amount lost is increasing, which will make it even more difficult to get back, so if the gambler is not in control and doesn't take time, it will be hard to get himself out of that shit.
