Edwards Snowden just made a tweet with final warning for everyone that privacy for Bitcoin is needed on protocol level.
I tend to agree with him on this and I really don't understand why nothing has been done regarding that for years, unless this was done intentional.

if you want privacy then use a coin designed for privacy. simple as that. but to expect bitcoin to change the way it fundamentally works is kind of naive. snowden doesn't seem to understand how bitcoin works...
it's not that simple to just turn it into something like monero.
