If you mean RICH as success in life, then my understanding of the content of the topic you described above is "99% hard work and 1% luck". To achieve a level of wealth that makes you free from financial problems, you have to struggle with hard work to live a more beautiful life because success is achieved by struggle, not by luck.
The thread is very confusing because OP didn't give any explanation about his assumptions. I have heard some motivational speakers say that it is better to work smart than to work hard.
