For me, I blame Erik Ten Hag for Manchester United's failure this season with the choice of players he signed in the summer for Manchester United. Rasmus Højlund and Andrew Onana should have been a backup plan for Erik Ten Hag, but he decided to make these two players his number-one choice at Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag should have used David de Gea as his one-number choice, while Onana should have been the second goalkeeper for Manchester United, and Erik Ten Hag should have signed either Harry Kane or Osimhen and used Rasmus Højlund as his second-choice striker for Manchester United.
I was probably thinking the same thing. But I understand Man United's situation at that time in the transfer market, where they had limited funds to spend. But what I don't understand is why this club didn't keep De Gea and instead brought in Onana with such enthusiasm. and we can see the results that Onana, who was in his best performance at that time before coming to Man United, namely Onana at Inter Milan, actually became worse when he was at Man United. So the real problem at that time was not with the goalkeeper but with the back line itself. And why does Ten Hag even want to replace the goalkeeper as if De Gea was in the wrong all along. Even though the goalkeeper can't do much at the back as the last line of defense even though he is the best goalkeeper in the world, if a bad back line continuously makes the goalkeeper overwhelmed then the results will still be bad and the team will concede a lot of goals. And this happened at Man United. But I wonder why Ten Hag doesn't seem to realize this. In fact, instead of spending money on Onana at that time, it would be better if Man United continued to extend De Gea's contract and buy several good back line players to improve the back line which has been very poor since last season. I would be surprised if Ten Hag is still the coach there next season.
Erik Ten Hag will remain as Manchester United's head coach next season because Manchester United management and some Manchester United legends blamed Manchester United players. Erik Ten Hag should have used the money he spent on Onana and Højlund to sign a better striker who can hustle to score goals if his midfielders fail to create chances for goals. And Erik Ten Hag should stop signing players he has worked with previously at Ajax when he was Ajax's head coach. This is the Premier League, and he can't expect to get the same results with the players he has managed at Ajax in Manchester United.
In fact, there is nothing wrong with a coach expecting good results with everything he does, but the problem is that sometimes the players who have been selected and are considered to be able to help Manchester United are a little less ready to compete in the PL because competition in the Premier League is more difficult and it is natural that the players they want Erik Ten Hag seems to have failed a bit in helping MU get good results.
Maybe it's time for Erik Ten Hag to try to find another player who is more suitable for MU, but the question is, will MU really keep Erik Ten Hag?
If this news is true, I'm sure Erik Ten Hag realized that the initial strategy was not working smoothly and chose to look for players who were more suitable to make a good contribution to MU.
