In my case, I have to lose a lot of money to realize I have to gamble responsibly if I don't want to break my finances and experience depression, so now I control myself and monitor my expenses, and I'm doing good with it.
A gambler should permanently abstain from gambling if he is addicted to gambling for a long period of time and is likely to face a large loss. Before a gambler goes into depression, he must stop himself from all kinds of worries. From this point of view, I would suggest that gambler to control himself from gambling permanently after being involved in long time gambling and give time to family. Moreover, if a gambler is involved in gambling for a long time, there is no mental attachment to gambling and if there is no attachment to gambling, the gambler is more likely to experience losses rather than profit from gambling. Then if he realizes that it is not reasonable for him to spend time on gambling then he should stop gambling and devote time to family permanently and discuss this matter openly with family members.
