DeFi is just basically holding or locking coins that are used to validate transactions and other activities in the blockchain.

If you are interested and looking for a platform, the basic things to consider are of course the team behind the platform. Scams can still be observed so we should be careful. I think it all depends on what you personally want but for me top priority is security and reliability of the platform.
