The high expectation on Leverkusen made people putting blame on Alonso for the loss. I think it's an expression of disappointment that makes people find anyone to put the blame on. I think it's indeed unfair to blame Alonso when he was under his own pressure to stay in unbeaten record that forces himself pushing the limit on his team which cause mentally fatigue in the Europa League final.
It would be inappropriate for anyone to blame a coach like Xabi Alonso who has looked after and brought the Leverkusen team to an even more extraordinary level this season. Because Leverkusen has also succeeded in winning two trophies this season even though they lost at the wrong time in the final match of the Europa League this season. And I think people who are willing to blame Xabi Alonso just because Leverkusen lost the final match are people who don't understand the pressure that Xabi Alonso is under and maybe also don't understand how football works for all teams including Leverkusen.
Why look for scapegoats when losing because after all we are not someone who should praise when a club wins and should berate when they lose considering they also try well in a match.
It's true that losing to Atalanta put a bit of a damper on Leverkusen's plans but that doesn't mean that one defeat wipes out all the positive trends and victories that have come before.
Xabi has done his job very well and in this case we should not only look at one match against Atalanta to undermine Xabi because after all, the record of 51 matches without losing and the 2 trophies they managed to bring this season in the DFB and Bundesliga and the series of records or achievements that Xabi got in this season with Leverkusen it already makes us have to realize that he deserves to be praised and one defeat even though it is a little upsetting but it cannot erase the series of achievements that have.
