Honestly. Eric Ten Hag did not do as best as it will be expected from him as a manager of an elite club like Manchester United where Sir Alex Ferguson who happened to be one of the greatest European managers of all time managed for years to many victories. Any manager that is coming to that kind of club is expected to do more and I guess Eric felt that pressure in the beginning but later was more focused on his inability to control his emotions and sentiments towards his players.
I think the expectation on Eric Ten Hag is too high. He actually could bring some changes in Man United squad. He can give a trophy although it is not EPL trophy yet. Everyone knows that Ten Hag successfully leads Man United team to win FA Cup trophy. They could defeat Man City in the final of FA Cup this season. In my opinion, it proves that Man United has a potential to be a stronger team and Ten Hag is a good coach. The problem is they couldn't perform consistently in the whole season, they sometimes missed the points when they play against weak teams. I think this can be solved by Ten Hag if they have more option of good players in the squad. Man United needs to buy some new players and sell unnecessary players. The defense line should be the focus to rebuild before the new season starts. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans aren't necessary to keep in the squad. I really hope Man United will sell these defenders as soon as possible.

Sure, another factor that Ten Hag must be more mature. He must know how to have a good relationship among the players. I don't understand that he can't optimize the ability of some players such as Sancho and Rashford. Sancho is reported to have bad relationship with Ten Hag, he decided to move to Dortmund. Rashford also can't play in his best level anymore. I guess this is about the lack of ability from Ten Hag in giving the motivation to the players.
I'd rather see it as the problems that happened in the coach and players.
Here's my concern regarding united's poor performance at EPL last season.
1. Bad decision making from coach
2. Quality of players.
3. Motivation for the players
We have seen that how united was performing quite better before this season caused by club was able finishing at the top and qualify for the UCL. This time united has showed that how its quality has been dropping so hard like a roller coaster.
Even though united has won FA cup but it can't also deny the fact if united has been also recording the worst achievement ever in its history.
