P2E gaming did not get recognised due the factor that their graphics and game speed is not that good enough in the current times. People are interested is playing high graphic games, even mobile gaming is now going through a phase where some games have graphics like console games. Unless these P2E games work in improving their graphics and game play they won't see much adoption.
I think most of all, concept and gameplay is two of the biggest factors that are being considered.
I also believe a huge part of games must come from trends and marketing. Kids nowadays play what their friends are playing so games that offer multiplayer are very attractive to gamers. I have noticed that rank-based games are very popular due to players wanting to level up and even asking their friends to help them.
