A great season for Leverkusen. They played fantastic soccer and won the Bundesliga. But the Champions League is unique. Best of the best. Undoubtedly, Leverkusen is good. Their level is below Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City. Not even close. They havent shown they can withstand Champions League pressure and intensity. Thats key. Not just skill, but experience and mental tenacity. Lets see how they do in groups. See if they can handle the big boys. We can then discuss Champions League contenders. But now? Way too early. Far too early.
Leverkusen this season has transformed into a strong team and is able to surprise many big teams, so it can even be said that their have shown extraordinary performance since Alonso managed to build an undefeated squad, Leverkusen throughout this season only got 1 defeat, although indeed the defeat is quite painful because it eliminates their chances of winning the treble winner but I think it does not tarnish all the achievements Leverkusen this season with Alonso, ending the season with the Bundesliga trophy and also the DFB Pokal is certainly proof of Alonso ability to make Leverkusen a great team from before only the Mediocre team even struggled to avoid relegation.
This season is a very perfect season for Leverkusen but next season will certainly be a very big challenge for Alonso in maintaining their performance, now of course Leverkusen fans expect a lot from Alonso to be able to bring Leverkusen to be able to compete at the highest level of the Champions League later, I think while still being able to maintain the depth of their squad like this season certainly does not rule out the possibility if Leverkusen can compete in the Champions League next season.
