Domestic clubs especially rivals Madrid, continue to develop, Barcelona is also trying to cover all its shortcomings, even with limited players and limited funds, but there are always different things every season and with the arrival of Girona they also starting to be considered worthy competitors next season. Therefore if Atletico Madrid does not upgrade its players and coaches next season this club could be left behind by its rivals.
I can say that Atletico Madrid looks like a club that only fills the top of the standings and the knockout stages of the Champions League but they don't have the capacity to become champions. I don't know why I saw it like that. Atletico Madrid were champions in the 2020/2021 season but after that they were only competitors in La Liga. I also see that Simeone always uses the same tactics and is not very effective. But I don't think we can blame Simeone because he managed to get Atletico Madrid to play in the UCL almost every season with players who I think are not quite great players.
Atletico Madrid used to be the major contenders in the UEFA Champions League competition but in recent seasons they've failed to deliver good performances in the competition and that's why a lot of people are of the opinion that they now come to make up the numbers and shouldn't be considered as a strong contender for the European title again. After they struggled in the middle of last season, Atletico Madrid were still able to make it to the top four of the Spanish La Liga at the end of the just concluded season which automatically qualifies them to play in the competition again next season.
The club management is very happy with the presence of Diego Simeone as the club manager and doesn't have any plan of sacking him anytime soon so I strongly believe that Atletico Madrid will continue to be more of a pretender than a serious contender for the UEFA Champions League title come next season because we have other clubs with more quality of players and determination to win the trophy than Atletico does.
