Germany managed to score a golal in extra time.
This was a vital point for them since also Spain will probably end 1st on its group, Germany positioning themself in 1st position have managed to avoid the game against Spain in the 1st elimination stage.
They will now probably face Italy or Croatia instead.
They should hope for Croatia because Italy play very good football almost like Spain.
If Germany had lost, it would have affected the morale of the team if they entered the knockout stages of the competition after just losing a game so the fact that they haven't lost any game yet in the competition will keep the motivation of the players high to maintain the record they want up to the finals.
It would be impossible if Germany had to lose at home. Their dignity as hosts would be humiliated when 2006 was repeated with Italy. I think in the next match we will focus on reaping a win rather than giving victory to the opposing team, even though their points are safe. that doesn't mean the enemy team will find it so easy to win against Germany.
In the encounter Germany needed draw, and they got it to top the ground A, it was a very difficult game for them, the Switzerland is a very good team, well organised in the defence and Germany finds it very hard to penetrate it. The late minute goal gave Germany and edge to escape Spain in thr knockout stage. Switzerland will have to wait for the game between Italy vs Croatia to know their next opponent in the round of 16.
Italy will qualify to the next stage, i don't see Croatia winning this game, they had not won any game in the competition, they played poorly and Italy are really in form. It will be interesting game but I'll stake on Italy to win.
