Yesterday, Turkey secured a 2-1 victory against the Czech Republic in the final Group F match, advancing to the last 16. The Czech Republic bid farewell to the tournament with this result. Notably, the referee in the Turkey-Czech Republic match set a tournament record by issuing 16 yellow cards and 2 red cards. At one point, I even wondered if he would start showing cards to the fans and TV viewers.
I think it was actually 18 yellows and 1 red, two of the yellow ones got converted to a red one.
It looked like the referee was trying to make a name for himself and go for the record, and I think he might have succeeded. I believe this is the most yellow cards in one game in Euro's history.
Some of them were deserved, some not, I don't think showing that first red card to Barak in 20th minute was a good decision and it changed the game completely.
It was a really good one to watch though, with both teams not holding back and doing everything to win.
