I know this is common sense to the majority of people on this forum but I can't stress how important it is to gamble responsibly.
There was a recent case in Australia where a man lost his entire life savings of $400,000+ in a 48 hour gambling spree.
The gambler lost $12,000 in a single bet and then tried to chase that initial amount but ended up losing his life savings.
I am a seasoned and experienced gambler and my one piece of advice to people is to only bet what you can afford to lose otherwise you are setting yourself up for failure.
The only liable person for the decision we've made is only ourselves, no other to be blame for whatever reason it is. On that case of 12k usd, it was too huge amount and if invested on a business that would rather gain a huge profit more than half.
Maybe if this was managed very well with a financial advisor it could be family member or any friend of this person, most probably it will not happen. Life saving shouldn't be wasted because that's for our future, well that's his decision but we shouldn't overspend this certain amount just for gambling because common sense will be out of nowhere if many people just let themselves drowned to this severe thing being irresponsible gambler.
