So Norris did get a pretty good result. Pole and fastest lap, yet still the Max effect takes place. What can one do? Leclerc failed to impress -- at least Perez more or less did what was expected, and got me some bonus points, alongside Piastri.
I think Norris is doing amazing this season in Formula 1 and he is now in second place on driver positions, team McLaren made a great move signing a deal with him.
Biggest fail for me is Sergio Perez, he is driving the same car like Verstappen but he is now in fifth place overall, and he finished only on eight in Spanish Grand Prix.
The past season has made Verstappen seem unreachable only because of the car. Many fans were bored last year but now we are seeing proper title fights. First with Ferrari (but they seem to be not doing well if the last two races are to go by) and Red Bull and now with Mclaren and Mercedes seeming to have improved.
With a real competition in the constructor’s championship, Red Bull needs to reconsider what Perez is still doing in that seat with more years under his belt.
Question is can Norris make a big surprise and overtake Verstappen in first place?
I don’t think so. Mclaren’s car is a rocketship but Verstappen is too good. Even if you place Verstappen in a car that is not the fastest, he can still somehow find a gap and win. Norris is not the direct competitor of Verstappen even if he is 2nd now in my opinion. Leclerc has more chance if Ferrari just learns how to manage their car.
