Before Vincent Kompany was appointed as Bayern Munich manager, they club have tried other possible options but were turned down by the other managers including former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick who happens to be the current manager of the Austria national team and Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.
