The Champions League is not just for top teams.
Yes, there have been only 9 clubs winning the title in the last 20 years,
but I don't think winning the trophy is the only aspect of the competition.
Upsets happen every year, there are always surprises of small teams beating bigger teams.
The way Manchester United couldn’t survive a group with Copenhagen and Galatasaray shows enough reasoning why I say that.
Man United is definitely the bigger club among those, but surely didn’t do justice to the
"top club" definition. Maybe one of the top teams will take the title again, but the competition will always be fierce

.
I understand were you are driving at, and of course those things also needs to be considered because that a league is very interesting is actually as a result of seeing new things such as serious competitions and more surprising things, because just like you said it becomes more interesting when we are seeing smaller clubs beating the higher clubs on there match because that was actually one of the reasons why Spanish La Liga this season was very interesting because in as much as they have a number of clubs that always have the best chances of wining the league but the improvement of most of the smaller clubs makes it more interesting because we could recall that sometime ago most of them were not performing well but seeing a club like Girona wining the kind of matches they were wining makes the league more interesting, so is also applicable to the champions League because it will surely make it more interesting if we are seeing some smaller clubs wining the bigger ones.
