Absolutely, I totally understand that with time — as the UCL competition starts and progresses that myself and other people that find more clarity around the new format and other minor details are still vague. I don't think they would be new rules to the competition for a while after these recent changes so there'd be an ample amount of time to understand and experience the UCL under this new format. I have my fingers crossed that it will actually be a banger.
I believe this new format will be good. It brings more teams and more games. Instead of 32 teams, there would be 36 teams and it would be in a league format but 9 teams will be in a group. Each team will play 8 matches, unlike the previous 3 home matches and 3 away matches. The new format will have no return legs in the group stage. It would be a single match with each team playing 4 matches at home and 4 away out of the 8 matches they'll play. The result will be in league format meaning each win will be recording on a league table consisting of all the 32 teams.
The top 8 teams automatically qualifies for the group stage while the 9th to 16th place teams will play 17th to 24th in a knockout play off which will be home and away. The 8 team to qualify will be drawn the top 8 automatically qualified teams in the round of 16. The knockout part of the competition will remain as it has always been, a two legged knock out match.
