Indeed with Luka Modric have over age, Real Madrid keep him one year contract extend although can't guarantee become regular position looking how many young talented on Real Madrid midfielder from Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Valverde and Tchouameni.

I thought Luka Modric would retire at the end of this season. Because Luka Modric is now 39 years old. And now it's a tough task for Modrich to be on the field for the full 90 minutes. Last season we saw Luka Modric not in Madrid's starting XI for most of the matches. And Modric is unlikely to be in Madrid's starting XI next season. However, Luka Modric has extended his contract with Madrid without deciding to retire. Many thought Modric would play for a club in Saudi Arabia before retiring. But that probably won't happen. Maybe Luka Modric will retire in the Madrid jersey next season.

I agree with you that this is too much for both Madrid and Modric. Most of the players in Madrid's squad are now young. So having an experienced player like Luka Modric with Madrid will inspire the young players of Madrid. and will become experienced. And that's why Madrid manage to extend Luka Modric's contract by 1 year.
