People who gamble a lot lose a lot and if their luck is good, they can suddenly win something big, but not everyone has the ability to lose a lot first, which is why they stop for a while.  goes Many of us can't win big even with huge losses. I've never gambled a lot and I don't have a record of winning an amount that would change my life. But I have lost quite a lot which is much more compared to my financial condition.  But I can afford to lose them so I don't worry about them.  And I never gamble more than I can afford.
