Well, I can understand you, but most of the Bitcoin is still in the hands of the individual holders, and I hope it will stay that way. If we start becoming a minority - then there will be a reason to panic.

Yes. But if people continue to trust centralized exchanges with their BTC, the tide will change. Bitcoin will end up in the hands of governments, banks, companies, and institutions. Centralization is right around the corner (even though consensus is determined by miners, NOT economic holders). This means going back to the "era of middlemen" (something Satoshi meant to avoid in the first place). Nobody would care, especially when the majority is after the money. Convenience goes above all else, right?

At least, the code is open source. What's stopping the community from making a new fork that would strip away BTC from the hands of the aformentioned entities?
