Before Leverkusen became champions, only Munich and Dortmund were the title contenders. There were almost no other teams at the same level as them. Leipzig and Stuttgart were in second place behind them. And unfortunately Dortmund's performance was inconsistent in every season. They were only able to compete until the middle of the season and after that Munich would dominate the league until they became champions. Only in the 2022/2023 season did Dortmund play impressively and have the same points as Munich, unfortunately they lost on goal difference. But as far as I know Dortmund lost against Munich in the league match that season. This is different from Leverkusen who became the undisputed champion after drawing and winning against the Bundesliga king Bayern Munich.
Will this happen again in the Bundesliga this season, considering that Leverkusen still has strength under the guidance of Xabi Alonso and also Bayern Munich who will be coached by their new coach this season with several important changes that will be implemented later. As for Dortmund, I myself am still not sure that the team will be a contender for the Bundesliga title this season because Dortmund still often sells good players at high prices to other teams and that makes them weak.
Previously Dortmund continued to be Munich main competitor in the race for the title, but after Munich dominated the league for more than 10 years, last season, Leverkusen, which was never considered a title contender, was able to break thats the dominance, if we looking at what Leverkusen did last season, it seems like we are will see that next season the competition in the Bundesliga will be even tighter because the competition for the title will no longer only occur between Dortmund and Munich, but Leverkusen and several other Bundesliga teams are also worthy of being taken into account as challengers for the title next season.
In several pre-season matches that have been played by Leverkusen in the last few weeks it has shown that they still have decent performance and opportunities to challenge for the Bundesliga title next season despite their defeat to Arsenal in last match, the Leverkusen squad still occupied by the 99% last season players, so it will not be difficult for Alonso to build and make Leverkusen compete again in the competition for the championship trophy next seasons.
