Nico Williams is still very young and he has a lot of time to upgrade his career with a bigger club. At the moment he can feel that he owns something from Bilbao and want to contribute something more for the club, like paying back what the club helped him so far. Anyway soon he will no longer feel Bilbao is a good enough club for his career. Playing with his brother in Bilbao is good but in future, their player career must go to different directions depends on their talent, ambition and given opportunities from big clubs.
I think Nico Williams has a personal reason why he still chooses to stay in Bilbao. And it seems one of them is because his brother also plays for Bilbao. In addition, as you said, Nico Williams feels he has to contribute to the club that has given him a lot of playing time to become one of the young stars in the world. I think Nico will play one or two more seasons in Bilbao before deciding to move to another club. If he can consistently maintain his performance, there will always be a big team that will want to recruit him every season.
It's always good to know what motivates a player to stay or leave a club. For me, I think that good things can be generated in big teams. I wanted him to go to Barcelona, although Barcelona already signed Olmo and that's a great signing. For me, Barcelona has a good team. You can't say that they're way inferior to Madrid anymore. With respect to Nico, I think this player still has a long way to go. There's a reason he doesn't want to leave Bilbao. It's good that his decision is to keep him there, because it shows loyalty.
Athletic Bilbao leave €70m Barcelona target out of travelling squad
The Nico Williams and Barcelona transfer saga has dragged on for weeks now without a clear indication of which way it is going to end. Everyone thought that the 22-year-old made his intentions clear when he returned to training with Athletic Bilbao ahead of schedule.
Barcelona then proceeded to wrap up a deal for Dani Olmo and the 26-year-old is currently in the club’s offices to sign his contract until 2030. However, it seems all hope is not lost with Nico Williams.
We covered a story earlier today revealing that Barcelona had not given up hope on signing the 22-year-old but Athletic Bilbao remain calm about the situation. Nico continues to train with the Basque club despite not sorting out his future. Transfermarkt currently values the Spaniard for around €70m.
Barcelona have now been handed their biggest boost yet in their pursuit of Nico. As per SPORT, the 22-year-old has been left out by Ernesto Valverde from the traveling squad to Germany for their final pre-season clash against VFB Stuttgart.
This is a clear indication that things are going on behind the scenes regarding Nico’s future. Valverde doesn’t want to incorporate the player into the squad when his future still remains uncertain.
