It's easy to scapegoat and blame them, but everybody else seems to pretty much know as much as they do which doesn't seem to be a lot.
OK. Let's forget the fact that they were inept and unprofessional. What about the treatment of the victim's family members by the Malaysians? Some of the family members were manhandled and dragged away, when they protested against the Malaysians.
America usually drags peaceful protesters away too. I'd need more info on the situation to comment further.
