Self-discipline is key. It can be really hard, but the result is worth it. We are talking not about the profits, but about the knowledge, experience, and perception of the whole process.

I am not so sure that self discipline is key when it comes to gambling.

If a gambler keeps playing, they will eventually lose all their betting money.

That's just how the odds are. It doesn't matter if you lose it all in one night or over ten thousand nights.

Again, there should be a reason for why you gamble. For me, you are not losing this money, and it shouldn't be used as money to make a fortune to live in the days when you are old. You spend to feel the thrill of it, the odds, and to have a good time. You spend it for a service of sorts, where you can either win or lose, but you feel the thrill nonetheless, that's the main thing going about it. It's my opinion, of course, but if you gamble only to make a fortune, it's no wonder that the odds don't play in your favor. I do think the spirit of why you gamble and what's the reason behind it also matters.
The thing is that no one thinks like you do that's why we have some gamblers that are addicted to gamble today. If everyone is like the way you are saying we wouldn't have some that win huge money and still lose it again. Many gamblers will not feel alright when they lose their money while they gamble, they chase their lose and never even gets the opportunity to recover from it. What you have said is actually true because even if we win some amount of money it might not stay till we get old, if we don't gamble it again we might use it on other things.
