Thinking that bitcoin could become an alternative currency 10 years ago made sense but if you think about it today you are dreaming instead of observing what is happening.
Bitcoin is electronic cash. I accept it, you accept it. If you want it to be used more, start using it more 
When I lookup the definition of a currency, Google tells me:

One could argue it's a currency in El Salvador.the fact or quality of being generally accepted or in use.
