Atlanta too was not bad but Real Madrid currently is the best team in Europe. Real Madrid was the European champion even without Mbappe and with Mbappe, they'll have much more power at forward. It was a pleasant start for Mbappe. Girona and Barcelona are at their downfall and this season, the trophy looks easy for Real Madrid. A lack of competition too can be monotonous. This year too English premier league would be the most competitive and interesting league followed by maybe Bundesliga. France and Spain seem to have larger dominance of single team while Italian league is failing to attract good players.
If Atalanta's opponent was not Real Madrid, I think they would have played much better and would have been able to score goals. But unfortunately they had to face Real Madrid who have very good strength, not only in La Liga but for the European level they are undoubtedly very strong, so it is very natural when Atalanta lost in this match. Overall Atalanta's game is still good, it's just not easy to face a team that is at a different level than them. I don't mean to underestimate Atalanta and think their level is low, but with the naked eye we can judge for ourselves from the composition of the players owned by Real Madrid. Apart from that, the strategy implemented by Ancelotti is also good.
Atalanta were not bad featuring in that game, they possessed too good most during the first half of the game. One problem with atalanta is that they do not take outside of the box shooting, they had quite some reasonable time and space to take advantage of but they prefer going into the yard box before striking. Atalanta tried their very best but it wasn't enough to defeat a team like Madrid with best of the best young talented players, I can not think of any team that would have been capable enough of stopping Madrid from winning yesterday.
I personally don't think Atalanta performed well in this match. The match was completely dominated by the Real Madrid team. I say this because, in the first half, we saw Real Madrid perform very cautiously. This group did not try to attack. If Atalanta had played attacking in the first half, Real Madrid would have been under pressure. But in the first half the Atalanta team also played defensive tactics. Perhaps only 2 shots were made by Atalanta players in the first half.
Ancelotti changed Madrid's game strategy in the second half. And that was to be expected. Madrid were very aggressive from the start of the second half. And it was very difficult for Atalanta's players to resist Madrid's aggressive gameplay. Moreover, Atalanta's attack was not strong enough. So the team failed to score from the counter attack.
I would say that the Atalanta team lost against Ancelotti's match strategy. If Atalanta's match strategy was better, Atalanta would have definitely scored and the match would have been more competitive.
