I was actually scared for Real Madrid because of how stable the game was. It was not in anyone’s favor but in the 2nd half, Real Madrid showed their true strength and destroyed Atalanta’s defense. Valverde broke the deadlock in the 59th minute. And then the new signing Mbappe also scored a goal in his Debut and also got his first trophy on the Debut.
Playing against Atalanta is always difficult in defense because Atalanta are strong in attacking and they shown it in the Super Cup match with Real Madrid. Real Madrid are stronger on paper and actually shown it on field and successfully won over Atalanta. Atalanta lost this match but they have nothing to regret after performed well in the first half and had chance to get an opening goal in early of second half. One Europa League title, one chance to play in European Super Cup, that is great experience and milestone for their club history.
I must say the result was not surprising but the match was slightly surprising to me. As persno1 has said, Real Madrid’s defense this season is looking quite good as well. But although their main squad is looking very solid, I think they require a little depth in the main squad. Alaba is not doing very good as a centre-back right now, Nacho also left Real Madrid. I think they require a signing there to increase their squad depth.
Alaba will need some more time to get his best back after injury last season and Real Madrid still have time in this summer to bring one or two more defensive players to their club. Their attacking system is very good now but to win a battle, they need better defense system so buying some more players for this area is important.
