It just depends on how well your parents could understand what you are saying in simplest terms possible. If you know what you are doing, then you can probably just fragment what you do and change it into simplest sentences to make them understand about what you do. I told them about what I'm doing most of the time in basic way and they can understand and let it slide without further questions.
