Napoli played from 4 defender, then 5 defender system under Mazzari. Then again, it switched back to 4 defender system under Calzona. Now, it's back to 5 defender system under Conte. It's probably making them confused.
Also, Napoli's defense is worsening. I can't believe how I've seen worse defenders (Juan Jesus, Rrahmani, and Di Lorenzo) play together at the back. And think Juan Jesus is also the worst defender in Serie A too.

There is no reason for players to be confused with a new formation. A coach can decide to change their playing style as a game is going on and players will easily adopt. After all the two players who gave Verona the win Dailon Livramento and Daniel Mosquera, are new players who just came in and adopted the club's playing style.
