It was unthinkable that a Napoli team would lose so badly against Hellas Verona. Napoli is dominating the match. Napoli players have 67% ball possession. But at the end of 90 minutes, Napoli lost the match by a big margin of 3-0. Napoli players could not score a single goal in this match despite many attacks. I missed osimhen badly in this match.
Napoli had 67% of the ball possession and had a total of 14 shots. On the other hand, Hellas Verona managed to score four goals with only 9 shots. From this it can be understood that both Napoli's defense and forward lineup are quite weak.
Napoli will play against Bologna in the next match. Firstly, Bologna is not a strong opponent, and secondly, this match is Napoli's home match. So it is hoped that Napoli will not make the same mistake in the second match. In the second match, the team is likely to be able to score full points.
Antonio Conte is certainly feeling a lot of pressure after Napoli's humiliating 0-3 defeat to Hellas Verona in the first round. I want to point out a very big reason for this defeat: Napoli in the second half no longer had Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the heart of the team, who had to leave the field at the end of the first half due to injury. Conte looked helpless as his attack (Simeone, Cheddira, Politano, or Raspadori) disappeared before Verona's scientific defense. Meanwhile, somewhere, the "beast" Victor Osimhen may be watching the match with sarcasm. Conte has Osimhen but cannot use him, and he also cannot have Romelu Lukaku as desired. Plus Napoli's three-man defense struggled, with Juan Jesus, Amir Rahmani, and captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo failing to create the necessary cohesion. They defended like an amateur team and conceded three goals in a very stupid way.
We can't blame everything on Coach Conte, Napoli's summer transfer was complicated. I hope the fans are patient because the team still doesn't know each other well in training and matches because of too little time working together. We'll see how the future plays out. But Conte is facing similar struggles as he ended his time at Juventus, Chelsea, Inter and Tottenham.
I mean it was really surprising to see a manager of Conte’s caliber get destroyed like that in a low tier card. I can understand why the club’s fans are upset. Napoli had some complicated transfer seasons, but they have to keep in mind that it is a club of a high tier and the players that they have are far better than the ones at Verona. There has been some talk about Osimhen leaving and if he leaves I think Napoli is going to be in a more dire situation.
Napoli’s next match is against Bologna who are a far better team than Verona. If they keep up their performance, they will be destroyed again in the next match for sure. Conte is an experienced manager and I believe he can come back from this defeat greatly.
