Not clear exactly what value or virtue you are looking for. Namecoin has a practical use in that a fork or clone lets any group create its own internet and economy, cryptographic issues notwithstanding.

There are many people who believe that it is important that a governmental authority always have full control over any internet/ The usual reason given is 'crime prevention', but the real reason is that the major melting pots e.g. uk/u.s./aus, china, etc do not want to lose control over tribal groups they are assimilating.

Namecoin could be cloned and a branch started to serve group and tribal interests, but its likely any such attempt would run into interference.

At some point it may become a useful tool, but first it's necessary to figure out the who and why of opposition to it.
