I do not think Real Madrid will have easy time in Champions League with their current team. They have history of doing well in tournament but last year they got lucky because of mistakes made by other teams. They also won some games at very last minute. Other teams like Bayern Munich could have won if they made different decisions. This means Real Madrid did not just win because they were best but also because of things outside of their control. So I think they will face problems in Champions League with their current team.
I will even say that Bayern could have won if the referees had made different decisions, but that is no longer important. I agree with you that Real Madrid was very lucky in several matches of the Champions League. It is obvious that they have more problems now and this is already reflected in their results in La Liga, I think that in the Champions League they will be even more obvious because the opponents there are also stronger. But perhaps this will be more obvious at later stages of the tournament.
But the Champions League has not started yet so no matter how doubtful about Real Madrid this season is, it is no different from last season when many people doubted Madrid after Benzema left. However, everything is not just about luck, but mentality also plays a role on the field and that makes Madrid different from the strongest teams. In my opinion, performance in the Domestic League cannot be 100% used as a reference for the performance of any team if it is already in the Champions League. I don't need to mention one by one because we have often seen bad teams in the Domestic League but are able to show good performance in the Champions League.

The first match of 8 matches that Madrid will play host Stuttgart. And what you need to know is where is Stuttgart position in the Bundesliga? It doesn't mean that in the match against Madrid they have to play badly, right?
That's why the Champions League is unpredictable and has nothing to do with the team's performance in domestic competitions. Different competitions with different levels of competition will give rise to different motivations.

Don't get me wrong, I've made comparisons like that in the past without even realizing it. Grin
