There is no doubt that Bitcoin could be a great alternative in such situations but only if the receiving party accepts Bitcoin as a payment for their services. The basic reason why most people can't use Bitcoin for such things is because there aren't a lot of service providers that accept Bitcoin even if a person knows about Bitcoin and wants to use it for their payment knowing they will need to pay less fees on their transaction and they wouldn't also need to wait so long for their transaction to get confirmed.
This is the basic reason why Bitcoin was created, but we are still far away from complete adoption. If every service and platform starts accepting Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, things will get easier for a lot of people.
