The bank transfer must have delayed his transaction for at least two days only to realize that almost €100 was charged for transferring €1,000 to the beneficiary account. Fiat is just silly, banks are crook and feeding fat on people's money.
Bitcoin was not created to replace fiat. Both of them have different parts to play in the global financial system. You wouldn't expect me to use Bitcoin for a domestic transaction that wouldn't cost up to a dollar to execute. Except I want to maintain privacy, I would prefer using banks for transactions within my country. Bitcoin is preferable in international payments that sometimes involve high fees and some bottlenecks.

Both fiat and Bitcoin are not perfect payment systems because they also have lapses. The case OP mentioned might just be one of the rare cases where greedy middlemen or system errors lead to delays and high fees.
