Wow, happiness can be free and easy if you learn to be grateful for what you have today. There is still room to aim for more wealth or possessions, but you are already wealthy if you are happy with what you have.

Op, yes obviously happiness is not only tied to material things been aquare with money, but I doubt if money can be completely rule out to once happiness, when there is no money to afford basic amenities of life, it appears ur under a cause.of a truth, farmers, soldiers etc.are more problem solvers in every society than merchant like you rightly said, like in my country here, we have more merchandise, there is plenty of money but unable to solve plenty problem, we lack factories, industries that could creat employment thereby engaging the youth to avoid idleness which is capable of solving many problem in the society, so I can tell you for free, as human we need money to solve basic problem of life, and once that is done, ur happy.
