Whales could just bet on cryptocurrencies they would be investing large sums of money right after they placed their bets, creating a pump and dump scheme for the sake of winning a bet and consequently profiting from it. I guess nobody would gamble on future trends of crypto market, due to the high risks and lack of legitimacy of the outcomes.

Gamblers prefer sticking to predicting BTC and ETH prices, or the prices of more stable assets. Anything too volatile which can have its demand increased artificially on short run doesn't work as a good niche for the gambling industry to settle itself.
